Cookieless analytics

Plausible page views are sent through our own same-origin /_e endpoint. Plausible is cookieless and runs for everyone, independently of Google Analytics choices. Its page-view URL omits query strings and fragments. You can opt out by setting plausible_ignore to true in your browser’s local storage.

Google Analytics cookies

On indiannamemeaning.com, we also use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read and how they use the site. When enabled, it records page views, page URLs and titles, referring sites, interactions and session information, along with browser, device and approximate location information. This information is sent to Google. User and event data retention is set to 14 months.

Google Analytics uses _ga to distinguish browsers and _ga_FXSWBQFS1S to maintain session information. These cookies can last up to two years.

Your analytics choice

In the UK, EEA and Switzerland, Google Analytics cookies are off until you choose Accept in the banner. The same applies in the Crown dependencies and Gibraltar, and when the country is unknown or the connection is identified as Tor. Elsewhere, Google Analytics runs by default. The country supplied by our hosting provider is used only to decide whether to show this consent banner.

You can open Cookie settings in the footer at any time to accept or decline. We save your choice and a timestamp in this browser’s local storage as inm-consent and honor it for 180 days. Decline disables Google Analytics and removes accessible _ga, _gid and _ga_* cookies on this host and its parent domain; it does not remove data already sent. After a choice expires, the regional default applies again.

We treat Global Privacy Control (GPC) as a refusal, including when an earlier saved choice was Accept. While GPC is on, Google Analytics stays off.

Local preferences

A light or dark theme preference can be saved in your browser as inm-theme. Directory filtering runs locally. Name searches are not included in the Plausible page-view URL.

Name data

We publish aggregate counts with suppression, without individual records or person-level classifications. See our methodology for coverage and privacy thresholds.
