Monier-Williams and Cologne

Uses data from Cologne Digital Sanskrit Dictionaries: Monier-Williams, Sanskrit-English Dictionary (1899), csl-orig source transcription. We give the dictionary headword and printed page and column beside adapted dictionary senses. Changes include selecting short senses, formatting and connecting them to personal-name accounts.

Personal-name references and notable namesakes

Behind the Name provides entry-level name histories. We keep alternative readings separate and check dictionary evidence for lexical meanings. Wikidata supplies explicit given-name statements for notable people with Wikipedia articles; namesakes never establish a name’s meaning.
