MEANING & CONTEXT
What does Firdaus mean?
Firdaus is the Arabic firdaws, a loanword of ancient Iranian origin that first meant an enclosed garden and came to mean paradise. In Islamic usage al-Firdaws names the highest level of Jannah, the garden of the blessed. The Persian poet Ferdowsi, author of the Shahnameh, took his pen name from this word.
