MEANING & CONTEXT
What does Hir mean?
Hir recalls Heer, the heroine of the Punjabi love story Heer–Ranjha. The name also meets the Indic hīra word for diamond, bringing a gemstone sense beside the literary referent. Waris Shah retold their story in a celebrated Punjabi poem.
