MEANING & CONTEXT
What does Nilappa mean?
Nilappa joins nīla, blue, with the Kannada respectful ending appa, father. The blue image recalls Shiva as Nilakantha, the blue-throated god. In the ocean-churning story, poison darkens Shiva's throat when he drinks it to protect the world.
