Word history

Monier-Williams (1899) records ṭhakkura with the sense “lord, chief”. Thakar is part of the title-word history of ṭhakkura. The dictionary records the older word as a term of rank and connects it with later name forms. The written form ઠાકર differs from ઠક્કર in its vowel and consonant sequence, so both spellings remain visible rather than being silently replaced. The title and later forms remain distinct spellings.
