OFFICIAL BIRTH RECORDS
Trending Indian names: what official birth records show
Exact-spelling counts by jurisdiction, year and publisher. These records describe births abroad and cannot establish a ranking for India.
India publishes no national baby-name list
India’s civil-registration statistics do not publish a national ranking of babies’ first names. Registration law provides a process for recording a child’s name; it does not supply a baby-name league table. Birth records from another jurisdiction cannot fill that gap.

The newest cohort visible in Indian historical records
Naampy v3 describes historical electoral-roll records, chiefly adults, by birth decade. The names below have at least 1,000 records in the 1990s birth cohort and were essentially absent from the 1960s cohort. This is a historical cohort comparison, not a recent baby-name ranking. Only names are shown.

Source and method
Counts describe exact spellings in each jurisdiction’s birth records, not a family’s ancestry or nationality. Recorded sexes, spellings and jurisdictions stay separate.
This selection covers names with an Indic origin language and a sourced meaning on this site. Ambiguous spellings such as Maya, Amari and Kali are excluded. Origin describes a name’s words, never its bearers.
Report tables are ordered by latest count. No ranks are presented. Changes compare published 2015 and 2025 counts; missing endpoints have no percentage change. “Not listed” does not mean zero.
Each chart has its own scale. Gaps are unknown. Peaks compare published years only, including ties. Download the CSV for every published yearly count.
