Word history

Wiktionary records त्रिवेदी (trivedī) as a Hindi surname. The entry gives Sanskrit trivedin as the source and supplies the sense familiar with three Vedas. Monier-Williams records the same sense for the older title. The first element tri means three. त्रिवेदी retains a later final long vowel; the title’s literal construction does not demonstrate the studies or qualifications of a particular individual.
