Word history

Monier-Williams (1899) records vyāsa with the sense “arranger, compiler”. Vyāsa carries the lexical sense arranger or compiler and is also the name of the literary sage associated with arranging texts. The dictionary brings these uses together in its entry. व्यास preserves the long vowel and consonant cluster. The surname’s word history does not establish authorship of a text by an individual.
